Woman Empowerment

Life in Tanzania is not easy for women. Both legally, culturally and socially, women are subordinate to men. This is especially the case in the rural areas of Tanzania. Girls are often forced to do heavy work at home and care for their siblings. Statistically, of the less than 5% of children that manage to graduate from secondary school, less than one in four is female. Lacking in the basics of reading, writing or basic arithmetic, it is the men that hold the purse strings and make all financial decisions in the household, and women are very rarely given any financial freedom or allowed to keep their own earnings.

At the Watoto Momella School Project as well as in our Mama Momella Fashion Project we counteract this unacceptable situation by educating and employing the girls and women of Momella.
